Fairytales writing workshop (KS1 – KS2)

Get your pupils writing and inventing fairy tales with this fun workshop suitable for Reception, Year 1 and Y2 children. Pupils will work in pairs to invent their own takes on traditional tales with lots of tips and encouragement from children's author and Creative Writing Club founder Robin Price.

At the end of session your class will share their stories on the microphone – which is great for confidence building.

Suitable for Reception to Y2

With Reception the focus is on making up the stories, drawing characters and retelling the story. More able Y1's and Y2s can work in pairs and write their own stories with our help and supervision. Challenge Y1 and Y2 to put a twist on traditional fairytales using CWC's interactive writing apps and writing frames. You can choose from Hansel and Gretel, Snow white, the Gingerbread man or Little Red Riding Hood. At the end of the hour, pupils can read their work out and if you like you are welcome to submit the stories to the Hall of Fame for the world to see.

Get creative with fairytales

Pupils will listen to folk tales like Hansel and Gretel, Snow White and the Gingerbread man. Then they'll make up their own fairytale as a class using Creative Writing Club's cool interactive apps. Then they'll come up with their own characters.

Description

Fairytales is just one of the great workshops and themed assemblies that you can choose when you bring Creative Writing Club to your school. Popular topics for Reception and Y1 include: the rainforest, toys, animal heroes, the magic door, knights, the great race, unicorns, the seaside and the Great Fire of London. Year 2 can enjoy all of these as well as the stone age, Mary Seacole, the Romans, the Greeks, the Vikings, the Anglo Saxons, the Tudors, sci-fi, Shakespeare and more. Combine any workshop with an assembly in 2 hours. Or have an assembly followed by up to four writing workshops (on any topic) so that each class gets their own session.
